Hello-Hello, and welcome to our post asking you to vote for your favorite Trooping the Colour look. This one is fun, as the looks are fairly distinctive from year to year. The pieces have varied in style, along with the accessories and hairstyles Kate has chosen.
We begin with Kate’s first appearance at the event in 2011. She wore a double-breasted Alexander McQueen coat. It featured what the company described as a “softly pleated and tiered Samurai skirt.” Kate’s hat was by Lock and Company.
The Duchess wore a bespoke Erdem dress for the 2012 ceremony. That piece was done in a soft grey fabric with tone-on-tone embroidery that was probably beautiful in person. Kate’s hat was a Jane Corbett design.
In 2013 Kate went with another bespoke Alexander McQueen look. The soft pink coat has an oversize collar, three-quarter sleeves, flap pockets and large pearl buttons trimmed in filigree. Kate wore the coat and coordinating dress again for the annual Commonwealth service in 2015.
The Duchess opted for another Alexander McQueen look at Trooping the Colour 2014. This time she was in a silk jacquard suit with a fitted peplum jacket; the fashion house’s signature skull was woven into the fabric in a very subtle way. (See our original post for a closeup of the material.) This was the first year we saw Kate wearing a Jane Taylor hat for the event.
In 2015 we saw Prince George for the first time on the Buckingham Palace balcony. Kate wore a Catherine Walker design, the brand’s Astrid coatdress. The silk dupioni fabric features an ivory floral pattern on an icy blue background, and the coat had princess seams with an oversize collar. Kate’s hat was the Marisabel style, designed by Sylvia Fletcher for Lock and Co.
For the Queen’s birthday Parade in 2016, Kate brought back Princess Charlotte’s christening coat by Alexander McQueen, accessorizing with a hat by Philip Treacy. It was an optimal time to repeat the piece, as Princess Charlotte made her debut at Trooping the Colour that year.
At the 2017 event, the Duchess was in a bright pink dress, one of the much more vibrant colors we have seen her wear. It was another Alexander McQueen style, with a paper-bag waist, pleated neckline and long sleeves. She accessorized with a matching hat from Jane Taylor.
With this year’s event just last weekend the ensemble is fairly fresh in our minds. The Duchess wore a blue Alexander McQueen dress in what looks like a tropical weight wool crepe. The piece featured a square neckline, pleated shoulders, 3/4-length sleeves, fitted bodice and full, pleated skirt. This is the first year we have seen the Duchess wearing a hat by milliner Juliette Botterill.
